It’s no secret that the popularity of tattoos has increased over the past few years.  It seems as though most people (men and women) under 30 have at least one, and many older people have gotten into them, too.  The reason for this is not real clear.  The popularity of tattoos has risen and declined over the years.  The quality and originality have greatly increased.  We’ve all seen older people  with the standard blue ink tattoo that has faded over the years.  One wonders if the newer ones will maintain their appearance longer.   These “old school” tattoos seem to be very conservative compared to today’s tattoos.

Most people today seem to have multiple tattoos, and they are located, for the most part, in areas of the body that can easily be covered.  Many employers require this.  Then there are those that have tattoos in very obvious places.

Although the reason for getting a tattoo are as varied as the individuals that have them, some reasons are quite common.  One of the reasons is to provide an outer symbol of a strongly held belief.  Of course there are the tattoos that pay tribute to a family member or loved one.  There are religious tattoos, and  tattoos that are artistic in nature, and just look good.
